UK and US astronomers in cooperation managed to snap the clearest photos of space taken to date. The images are twice as clear as those taken by the Hubble telescope. They were taken with the help of a new adaptive system, developed by Caltech and Cambridge teams in cooperation, which was mounted at the Mount Palomar Observatory in California.
Even though normally Earth based telescopes can’t compare with the Hubble, this new system called ‘Lucky’ uses the most sensitive light detection system developed so far, based on a chip with very low electrical noise, thus with much better detail. The second component of this system is the software which is capable of detecting when the distortion starts or stops.
