A couple of years ago, Lucent-spin off Agere Systems claimed that Sony had infringed no les than eight of their patents and that’s why they invited the Japanese manufacturer for a walk to the Courthouse.
To be more precise, Lucent and Sony signed a deal for seven patents but unfortunately, the eight one was a vulnerable Achile’s heel. After two years of legal battle, the jury has came to the conclusion that Sony had no right to use Agere’s intellectual property in the mylo, Network Walkman and the PSP. Unfortunately they did it and not they must suffer the consequences and pay a very expensive $18.5 million penalty.
